About
How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time
I recently watched two TV programmes that really challenged me. One was Blue Planet Two in which Sir David Attenborough explained the effects of plastic on sea life. The other was a programme in which Chris Packham showed the devastating effects of palm oil plantations on the rainforest and indigenous population. It made me realise how my western lifestyle can affect people and other life on this planet that have no choice in the matter.
I have a choice
I can either ignore the way that mankind, including me, is ruining this planet or I can have a good look at my own lifestyle and make changes to reduce my own impact on the planet.
A daunting prospect
Having started looking in supermarkets to see how much plastic I can see, I have concluded that if all items containing plastic in some form were removed then there would be little left. The wine and beer aisles would still be full and there would still be the products that are in glass jars and bottles but the vast majority of products would be gone. I realised I would have to think about this one and although the prospect of trying to make changes is daunting I refer to the elephant quote. It is a big task and the only way to tackle it is one small step at a time.
The Blog
I have decided to do this blog NOT to blow my own trumpet (not at all my style) but to document my journey, see what I can find out and change, and hopefully pass on good ideas and information on to anyone who wants to use them. I am quite a resourceful and creative character so I am looking forward to where this journey takes me and what I discover.
